City of Punta Gorda Charter Review...
Every six years the city’s charter is reviewed and recommended changes are put before the citizenship for their consideration. For this cycle the City of Punta Gorda Charter Review Committee has submitted eight changes and one new Section to the current City Charter for the electors to vote on Nov. 8.
Five of the proposals [ballot question numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 9] have actual changes explained below. The other four [ballot numbers 5, 6, 7 and 8] are a culmination of clarifications, updates and adherence to new State laws. To see the five items with actual changes:
2016 GIVING CHALLENGE
With the support of our members, friends, PGICA Board members, staff and Patterson Foundation partners, we were able to reach our goal of $50,000.00.
We will continue to update you on the final amounts, once credit card verification is complete. But as it now stands, you donated a total of $20,064.00. We will receive $31,594.00 in matching funds.
We are proud to have been a part of the 2016 Giving Challenge that raised $13,386,909.00 for non-profits in the tri-county area. We know you had a lot of choices for your donations, and we appreciate that you chose to donate to us.
As promised, this money will go toward eventual restructuring of the west wing of our building. The entire amount will be used solely for Capital Expenses. Watch your Commentator for more details from the long range planning committee!
The Giving Challenge is made possible by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and the Patterson Foundation with support from the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation, John S. and James L Knight Foundation, Manatee Community Foundation and the Herald-Tribune Media Group.
The “Shop Punta Gorda” program offers PGICA members discounts on products and services. Currently there are 72 businesses participating.
