Springtime was busy for the PGI Road Runners. Several trips were planned to northern Florida and used as ‘jumping off’ points for summer adventures. Such was the case for the combined trips to Homosassa Springs and Cedar Key both hosted by Art and Sharon Schott.
At Turtle Creek RV Resort in Homosassa Springs, the men prepared breakfast and did the grilling for dinner. It was a great trip for the ladies who got a break from kitchen duties and for the guys who honed their cooking skills while getting better acquainted.
In Cedar Key, there was a large reunion with lots of people in town to see the parade Saturday. Several PGI Road Runners were actually seen wearing beads later in the festivities. One evening we enjoyed four terrific musicians who entertained us with bluegrass music. Dave Dines complimented our last night by ‘piping down’ the sun. It was a beautiful sunset overlooking the Gulf of Mexico.
On the Atlantic side, PGI Road Runners enjoyed the sights of St. Augustine, hosted by Ansis and Barbara Kozlovski and Ft. Clinch on Amelia Island hosted by Frank and Roberta Rudavsky.
Dunedin RV Resort was the site of our next trip hosted by Ellen and Bruce Say. The resort is situated between Dunedin, a cute little waterfront town with lots of shops and great homemade ice cream and the Greek-oriented community of Tarpon Springs, home of the sponge docks. There were many fine restaurants to choose from. One night we went to Hellas, a well known Greek restaurant which has a wonderful bakery.
This trip began by celebrating Cinco de Mayo. There were plenty of margaritas to go around. Rumor has it there was a margaritas drinking contest! Another evening, we had a fabulous potluck followed by “toilet paper Olympics"….another great event. The resort also hosted a 'pool party' complete with games in the pool, hamburgers, hot dogs and frozen drinks. Nearly everyone was in the pool – even our very own Santa (John Steciw) in swim trunks, a red tee, his famous hat and glasses. Children were surprised and excited to see Santa in May. What a great guy. We are lucky to have Santa in our club.
The last event of the season was dinner at Benedetto’s’ restaurant where sixty PGI Road Runners gathered for a fun evening. Three hours later some were still chatting away. It’s hard to say good-bye… if only for a few months.
