Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

I am writing this letter to inform our PGICA Members of the progress we have made on the Bocce Courts to go from concept to reality. I have heard from so many clubs and members of PGICA that they are looking forward to learning and playing the game that is second in popularity, in the world, only to Soccer. Our PGICA members are excited to have the opportunity to have a game that they can play outdoors when they have a function at the PGICA, compete against other clubs for bragging rights, join the Bocce Club, come and play with other members or just come and play with their spouses. This opportunity is getting closer to reality every day, and we are very excited about the progress that has and will take place.

Last October the Bocce Club made a formal presentation to the Board of the PGICA to ask for clay Bocce courts to be built on the grounds next to the tennis courts for all members to enjoy. The Board was more than supportive.  They gave us permission to put the project together and proceed to the point that we would be able to put the project out for bid so we would have a cost to present to our PGICA members.

We started the process by hiring a design group to put our ideas together in formal drawings so we could present them to the City of Punta Gorda.

Jim Doolittle, the Center Administrator, and I then went to the City of Punta Gorda and met with the Zoning Board to review the plans and ask for suggestions on what we would need to do to go forward with the project. We took their ideas and comments and are moving forward as follows:

#1 Have an updated Survey done on the PGICA  property, which is now complete.

#2 Have a Civil Engineering report completed on the site, which we are in the process of acquiring.

#3 When the Civil Engineering report is finished, we will then be able to have the final design completed by the design group.

#4 We will then to go to the Building Department for permits.  At that time we will be ready to move to our last step in this process, which is to put the approved plans out for bid so that they can be presented to the Membership for final approval.

I hope this information is beneficial to all our PGICA Members.  As we get closer to our presentation to the members, I know you will all start to feel the excitement that everyone involved in the project is feeling, having a new value added enhancement to the PGICA property.

I will be supplying new updates and a copy of the final drawings in The Commentator as they are made available to us.   Thank you for your support.
