PGICA classes are open to everyone in the community. You may register for a class by calling 637.1655 or register in person at 2001 Shreve Street. Please provide your telephone number and an e-mail address when you register so that you can be notified if there is a class change or cancellation. 


 

Lectures are open to all at no cost. 

  • ITALY: September 7 at 7 p.m. Mr. Harold Lang will be sharing memories from his many trips to Italy, including his most recent two month trip from Palermo to Lake Como.  Palermo is Sicily's cultural, economic and touristic capital and is a city rich in history, culture, art, music and food. Lake Como is famous for its numerous villas and palaces. It is a jewel-like oasis of tranquility, and a magical combination of lush Mediterranean foliage and snowy alpine peaks.
  • Temples of Bancock: October 5 at 7 p.m. Catherine Peterson will discuss the amazing history and interesting design of these temples.  The country is rich in diamond, emerald, ruby and sapphire mines, which is reflected in temple design.  As a Buddhist country hundreds of years old and never under foreign rule, the architecture reflects only the history of Thai rulers and the Buddhist religion.
  • ADVENTURES IN SPAIN: November 2 at 7 p.m. Helen and Richard Trinidad will be sharing their pictures and adventures from their five week trip to Spain this past spring.
  • BEGINNING AND INTERMEDIATE WATERCOLOR CLASS: This six week class will be held on Thursdays, October 7 through November 11 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Cost is $60. A second session will begin on Nov. 18. This class will encourage and inform beginners and intermediate students. The fun of the medium will be emphasized while learning about brushes, paper and glazing used to paint in watercolor.  Students will delve into the basics of value, balance, composition, color and more while practicing the marvelous medium of watercolor.  Short, clear lessons will be coupled with a project done together.  Intermediates may participate in the project or bring their paintings in progress for help and encouragement.  Please request a supply list when you register.  Bring these supplies with you for the first class.  Intermediate students may bring materials they are used to working in.


  • One Stroke Art: Thursdays October 14 through November 18, 10 a.m. until noon. The ONE STROKE Beginner’s Class provides an introduction to the technique developed by Donna Dewberry and marketed by Plaid Enterprises. Each session will focus on a specific technique, brush use, or a stroke unique to the One Stroke method of painting. Students will use acrylic paints. The primary brushes this class will use are the ¾” and the #12 (or ½”) flat brushes, the scruffy brush, and the #2 liner (or script) brush. You will learn how to use these brushes to create different strokes and image effects
  • ART, OIL PAINTING: Jan Britland teaches this day long class using the “Bob Ross Technique” September 13, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the cost is $50.00. The fee includes a canvas and all materials needed to complete the painting.  Class size is limited to 10 students. Wear old clothes, bring your lunch, and prepare to enjoy a full day of painting. This class will be offered on a monthly basis.

  • Let’s go Fishing: A six week introductory course in Florida Fishing is being offered by longtime fishing guide, Captain Ralph Allen. The new course will be held on Wednesday’s, beginning October 27 from 7 – 9 p.m. Topics include fishing techniques, tackle selection, rigging, knot tying, lures, bait, cast nets, fish identification, tides, and fishing regulations for fishing in fresh and salt waters of Southwest Florida. Various types of rods, reels, lures and nets will be displayed during the class and there will be a number of useful hand outs issued to students. The cost for the class is $40 and advance registration is recommended by calling 637.1655.  Two additional sessions will be offered beginning on January 5, 2011 and February 16, 2011.

  • DANCING FOR FUN LINE DANCE CLASS: This popular dance class returns October 4 and recurs each Monday from 11 a.m. to noon.  It is important to pre-register at the Civic Association. Please contact Patti 743.5815 or parky41@yahoo.com, if you have questions

  • DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY: Advanced – Is on-going, and will resume on September 8 at 9 a.m. This group of dedicated digital photographers study both picture taking techniques and processing their pictures with Adobe Photo Shop or similar software. The group occasionally takes photographic field trips. If you are interested in improving your skills, are familiar with Adobe Photo Shop or other similar programs, please come and meet with these folks.

  • YOGA:  Our Yoga Alliance certified yoga instructor, Ilse Mindling conducts classes on Thursdays from 8:30-9:30 a.m., beginning October 7. This workout is designed to accommodate a beginner to intermediate students. A session punch card is $40 and the card is valid for three months.  A drop-in session is $10. You will need a mat and comfortable clothes. Please do not have a heavy breakfast and be sure to bring some water to drink. For information call Ilse at 204.0095.

  • ZUMBA FIESTA:  An energizing Zumba Fiesta class continues to be a major draw for those looking for an invigorating  workout while having fun. This one-hour class is held every Friday at 8:30 a.m. A Tuesday class will commence October 5 at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $8 a session.  Questions?   • MAHJONGG CLASSES: MahJongg classes will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11:00 a.m. beginning October 5 and continue through October 21. The cost is $35 per person or $60 per couple. Class size is limited to 12 students (8 minimum). When you sign up at the PGICA front desk please remember to pick up a class handout. A 2009 MahJongg card is required.
